Senior High Open House Tonight (Sept 25th) 6 pm The SHS will be held tonight from 6 to 8:15. Students were given letters inviting parents to this Open House and does contain detailed information about the evening and a place for your child to fill in their schedule for you to follow. So be sure to find that before you come to the Open House tonight. For those of you who are new to the high school, let me summarize the evening … at 6pm, all the parents gather in the auditorium for a few introductory remarks by the administration and entertainment provided by the chorus and the media class. Then at 6:20 you will be dismissed to your student’s first period class. You get to follow their schedule and experience their day, including trying to navigate through the halls during each 4-minute “class change”. Each class is only allotted 8 minutes, so clearly this is not the time for a Parent-Teacher conference, but it is fun to see the rooms and be able to put a face to the name of each of your child’s teachers. Most teachers will have handouts including a course syllabus and/or classroom rules and goals. For those unfamiliar with the layout of the school, there will be maps available, signs in the hallways, and members of the National Honor Society available to direct you and answer questions. Be forewarned, the room numbering system has a few quirks, plus the map doesn’t show all the stairs. Arrive early… parking will be at a premium.

News about the FRHS E-News Format… I’m moving the “official PTO” blurb to the end because it was mentioned that many people review this on their blackberry and other mobile units and the front end verbiage takes up too much space in the beginning so the important info is truncated – so I will be putting the announcements right up front from now own, and the contact info at the bottom. Secondly, I believe I have fixed the distribution list problem, so there should no longer be duplicates going out. I discovered a bug in the software and have reported it to Microsoft Software Development. I hope they fix it on their next release! I try to keep formatting and cute things at a minimum because with of list of almost 1000 names, there are so many different versions of software that people are using, I have no way of knowing who has what and the compatibility. The biggest issue seems to be with Windstream accounts. I don’t know why Windstream accounts have more problems than others with the formatting, and with the distribution lists. This has been ongoing in the past and present. For those Windstream accounts, I have no control over the way the company sets up its software, so if you have problems with the formatting here, please click on the PTO link and the other links where I pull the information from so you can view the information right from the source. Thirdly, I try to get two issues out per week – Tuesday and Friday/Saturday -- but sometimes my life gets in the way – such as with this week. Most of the announcements are sent to me by the school on Monday and Tuesday for the week, and then I go through and find other interesting things for the Friday issue – this is to let you know how I structure the E-news. More importantly, I’m doing this to get info out to everyone. So, if you Booster parents have fundraisers and you’re not advertising her, you are missing a huge opportunity (remember, my list is almost 1000 names!) So, please send me your news and fundraiser announcements! And, I appreciate all the kind emails and nice things people have said to me about keeping this going. To those people, a huge THANK YOU! I appreciate your thoughtfulness.
The FRHS E-News is an electronic newsletter distributed independently by the members of your PTO. This newsletter is provided as a volunteer service to the senior high parents and other community members to keep parents up-to-date and informed about what is happening at the senior high level. Occasionally, there are mistakes, but we make every attempt to verify and publish accurate information on a timely basis. If you have news you would like to have published, please send your information to me at FRHSnews@comcast.net. Please remember, it would be helpful to have a minimum of a week lead time to publish the information. To subscribe/unsubscribe to the newsletter, please send email to FRHSnews@comcast.net.
