FRHS E-NEWS Tues, Sept 2, 2008 Welcome to FRHS E-news… the “unofficial” newsletter distributed independently by the members of the PTO. This newsletter is provided as a service to the senior high parents and other community members who want to stay informed about general information about the school. As an ad hoc newsletter, we cannot always guarantee the accuracy of the newsletter, but we try to verify the information and provide useful and timely school news and other interesting community info throughout the year. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome. To contact me or to subscribe/unsubscribe to the newsletter, please send email to FRHSnews@comcast.net. Thank you! Darlene Skupien

FRHS Student Plan to Host Election Day Event…November 4th My name is Melissa Miller and I am the 12th grade Social Studies Department Team Leader. The Social Studies department is organizing an election day activity involving the Freshmen and Senior classes. We will be holding a mock electoral college on Election Day. Some of our seniors will be presidential candidates, their staff of writers, PR people and researchers trying to win the support of the states. Other seniors, representing the states, will research the states, their concerns, demographics and voting history. Based on this information, candidate speeches and commercials they will determine which candidate will win their state, and the election. The Freshmen Civics and Honors Civics classes will be taking surveys, researching issues, making posters and commercials and decorating for our presidential candidates. The Freshmen will be working with their senior mentors (campaign staff) leading up to the election. On November 4th, Election Day, during periods 8 and 9 we will hold this event- starting with the speeches and commercials and concluding with the state caucuses and decisions. I am writing for two main reasons: 1. To invite parents to come and see the Election Day Activity and 2. To ask if the PTO would be interested in providing refreshments- cookies, juice etc. Please let me know if the PTO is willing to help. Yes… the PTO will be providing refreshments. Thanks to Melissa for a terrific write-up. We encourage other students to send us information/announcements to publish here!

I have been researching and trying a couple of different ways to get rid of the duplicates, so bear with me a little bit longer. Please don’t forget to send me announcements to publish, comments, and any other info you might like to include here. Thanks! Darlene Skupien @ FRHSnews@comcast.net |
