FRHS E-NEWS

Monday, August 18, 2008

Welcome to FRHS E-news… the “unofficial” newsletter distributed independently by the members of the PTO. This newsletter is provided as a service to the senior high parents and other community members who want to stay informed about general information about the school. As an ad hoc newsletter, we cannot always guarantee the accuracy of the newsletter, but we try to verify the information and provide useful and timely school news and other interesting community info throughout the year. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome.  To contact me please send email to FRHSnews@comcast.net

I apologize for the span between E-news.  It’s a little complicated, and I’m getting an amazing education in “distribution list 101”.  My email mysteriously stopped working after I sent the last batch of E-news out to everyone. So, I had to spend considerable amount of time figuring out why my email system shut down instead of writing the newsletter. We finally isolated the problem. Because of the size of the distribution list, and the fact that I sent out more than my allotted residential account will allow in a 24-hour period, Comcast shut us down and we didn’t figure this out for quite awhile. This is a security feature and so on. Anyway, just when I thought I had the duplication problem worked out, I had this to deal with. No problem.  Just bear with me as I continue to plow through the little issues as they show up.  I’m hoping things will start to go a little smoother hereon in.

Thank you, Darlene Skupien

The 2008-09 school year is right around the corner and I hope to start passing along great information as it is passed along to me.  If you have any news (especially booster contacts and club contacts) please send it to me so that I can include it with my weekly newsletter!

Late breaking announcement ***NO POST PROM EVENT in 2009***

It is with great disappointment and concern that we inform you that there
will not be a 2009 post prom. The post prom was initiated 2 years ago by
a committee including parents, our Sr. High principle, the teachers who
are the prom sponsors, as well as the 2008, and 2009 class officers.

We overcame many hurdles; funding issues, logistics, and chaperoning. We did
significant research in the surrounding school districts where they have
post proms and it was very clear. In order to initiate a post prom and
continue the event it has to be mandatory.

As we proceeded with our planning and came to the point where we needed to make
financial commitments, support from administration started to weaken. The support
for making the post prom mandatory was not there. If the post prom is
ever to become a reality, administration must take the lead and make the
commitment to a Franklin Regional Post Prom. Help and support will come
from both parents and school sponsors, but the direction needs to come from the
 administration.

Please note that a request for financial support for the Post Prom was
included in your child's schedule. As you can see now, those donations
are not needed. Thank you for your willingness to support this program.

Sincerely,
Your Post Prom Committee

PTO News…Student Directory/Membership Form

Your child should have received their class schedule this week and included was a PTO Student Directory/Membership Form which you can fill out and return as soon as possible so your child can be included in the student directory. The Student Directory is a great resource that lists all the students attending FRHS as well as a list of all the teachers, and a general who’s who of FRHS.  This is a real bargain and a wealth of information. There is a slight fee to purchase a book of only $6.00 each and you can purchase as many as you wish. There is  a spot on the order form for an additional donation which really helps the PTO do so many things for the school – an extra $5 can make a big difference!  Take the time today and fill out the form and return it in the envelope provided with your check for the Student Directory and whatever else you can do!

Also, please don’t forget that the high school PTO does absolutely no fundraising and relies on membership donations to keep our sponsored activities going.

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!!!

The PTO is looking for a volunteer to head up Teacher Appreciation for the high school this year.  In the past, the PTO has done several things throughout the year to let our teachers/administrators/secretaries know how much we appreciate them.  If you are interested, please contact Penny Holden (724-733-5734).

Also, the PTO is looking for a junior parent to head up the PSSA breakfast.  If you are looking for detailed information about what this involves, contact Lynn Gurrentz at lynngurrentz@comcast.net   She handled it last year and can fill you in.

The PTO is always looking for support and these two positions are a great way to get involved with the high school.

Thank you!

Penny Holden

Please send along all your news to me at FRHSnews@comcast.net.  And, thank you all so much for your patience as I’ve been trying to get this distribution list up and running as I’ve been migrating everything over from Anne Brendel -- she has my utmost respect for all the work she did over the past years and I am amazed at how easy she made it look!  I hope to get the bugs out of this and get this running a little smoother now.
