The first day of of spring sports is  Monday March 2nd.  All athletes must have a completed blue PIAA physical form and/or a green Section 5 recertification on file with the nurse by Wednesday Feb 25th in order to be eligible.  Remember,  each sport season requires a form.  If you have any questions regarding your eligibility, please see the nurse.

Attention all boys interested in playing lacrosse this Spring (9th through 12th) are invited to come to the stadium at 7:30 any or every evening this week for conditioning and to register for the sport.  We will not be collecting any booster fees (which supplement what the high school is paying for) until after the teams are set in mid-March. We are especially looking for 9th graders so if you have any interest please give Lynda a call.  Any questions? Call Lynda Bradshaw at 724-327-0995

Congratulations to the Mock Trial Team who have qualified for the Westmoreland County Final of the Pennsylvania Mock Trial Competition.  The team beat Kiski Area High School, Valley High School, and Mount Pleasant High School in the playoffs and will meet Greensburg-Salem in the final tomorrow.  Greensburg-Salem are formidable opponents, they were runners up in the state last year, and were the state champions for the previous three years. Nonetheless, our team is confident that there will be a playoff for all the hard work they've put in preparing for the competition.

The Neff Company will be here on Tuesday, March 10, during all three periods to take orders from any student athlete who is interested in having a varsity jacket and has already earned a varsity letter in their sport. Jackets will be available to try on and total payment is required that day, by check or credit card.  Informational flyers are available in the Athletic Office.

"The Heart of Art" from March 2nd to the 13th.  We will be having a Chinese Art Auction.  All original art works have been donated by staff, students and community members.  There will be pottery, paintings, calligraphy and more available--any hand made items are okay to donate.  Money raised will be going towards the collection drive for the local volunteer fire departments.  Bid sheets will be posted on the bulletin board in the main office.  Last bids will be collected at 2:30 on the 13th.  All winners will be announced the following Monday.  Anyone wanting to donate a piece for the auction must have the piece to Mrs. Mozina by 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 26.

All students who have had athletic parking passes for winter sports need to return those passes by Friday, February 27th, so that they are available to the spring athletes beginning on March 2nd.  Even if you plan to do a spring sport, you still need to return the pass from your winter sport.

The Varsity Track Season will begin on Monday, March 2, after school. Students that plan on participating in the Varsity Track and Field program this spring, should stop by the new gym during your lunch period and pick up your packet from Mr. Visnick before the start of Track Season.

The American Red Cross Club is sponsoring an Adult CPR training event on Saturday, March 7 at the Middle School Gym.  This certification course is offered at a special price of $10 and all ages are welcome.  Registration forms are available in the Counseling Center and are due by March 4th.

If you are trying out for next year's Pantherettes, Majorettes, or Silks and would like a copy of the try out music, please bring a blank CD to the Band Office this week.  On the CD, please put your name and the name of the group or groups for which you intend to try out.  The completed CD will be returned to you at the first rehearsal.

It was Senior Night at the Center Ice Arena for the Franklin Regional Varsity ice hockey team.  The Varsity squad won their 12th game of the season, defeating the South Park Eagles, 14-2, while outshooting the Eagles 56 to 9.  Eugene Mack got a hat trick and three assists, while Steve Shirk added a pair of goals and four assists. Pete Ellis had a hat trick and one assist, while Luke Stickel scored twice and had three assists during the game.  Chad White and Pat Coyne also scored two goals apiece for the Panthers.  Johnny Miller,  Anthony Talamo, Jack Gurrentz, Lucas Chiala, and Mike Adams each had two assists, while Shane Crossey and Jordan Sirianni each added one assist for the Panthers.
